Topic: New Year Resolutions & Changing Behavior
Two more days until we ring in a New Year and for many of us we can’t put 2020 behind us fast enough! We all look forward to a promising 2021. Covid is still here and yes the vaccines are slowly making an impact but this world pandemic has changed all of us. Not just here in the US but globally. It reminds us that Mother Nature can kick our butts anytime she wants. Many of you will be making New Year resolutions. Many of us will succeed in making changes but a lot of us are going to fall short, and that is okay. There is a reason why self-improvement, self discovery is one of the most read about topics. The question is how do you get there? How do you make change stick? No matter what your New Year goals are there is one simple rule. Have a plan and have a path. The most helpful tool I have found this year for me is writing out my thoughts. Reading and listening to audiobooks (my fav The 7 Habits). and buying a lot of white boards.
Yes, I said whiteboards they are in my office hanging on the walls. I’m a visual person so writing it out and seeing it day in and day out works for me. My point is when you feel like giving up, don’t. Take a step back and be compassionate with yourself. Meditate and work out regularly. It helps with focus and clearing your mind. EAT healthy! Changing habits and ourselves is a process and it won’t happen overnight. So be patient. Set small goals and keep the path you envision for yourself in mind. You will fail, and you will succeed. Life is about the moments, enjoy it but also remember to slow down. Like the saying goes “Stop and smell the roses once in a while. You only have this one life to live and remember … WE are all human - we are imperfect creatures and we will mess up from time to time. I encourage you to be loving and accepting not with just yourself but with your fellow man. At the end of the day the things you think are important now won’t be when death is knocking on your door.
