Don't break the bank and pay thousands of dollars to file your taxes!
What is the process for filing past due tax returns?
1) Gather all of your tax documents W-2s or 1099 forms and any other tax related documents you may have received. Hopefully you still have the originals.
2) Retrieve any missing tax documents from old employers and any other places you may have generated income or go to IRS.gov and get the wage and income transcripts.
3) It might be a good idea to have a copy of the last tax return you filed handy.
4) You can self prepare your tax return or hire a tax professional like me to assist you.
5) We can efile the past tax returns for 2021 2022 2023 returns.
If you have to file a return from 2016 to 2020, you will have to mail in those returns.
PRO TIP: When you mail in a paper tax return make sure you can track the documents in case they get misplaced. Always double check the correct mailing address as to where a paper return needs to go. You can call the IRS or visit their website at IRS.gov and look up the correct mailing address for your state and return status. You also have the option of dropping them off at the local IRS office, but you will need to make an appointment.
Paper returns take a lot longer to process, so be patient and keep your eyes out for any letters notifying you the IRS has received your tax return. Plan on waiting up to six weeks before the return is processed by the IRS, if you have mailed it in. The longer you wait to file the more money it will cost you.
Daily compounded interest is added to the outstanding debt until it is paid off. Unpaid taxes also leave you open to such things like wage and social security garnishment, bank levies and tax liens.
